GOD, THE BIBLE AND HONOURING PARENTS

     Honoring and obeying parents is critical to God. Not obeying this commandment will lead to curses and a short life.

Exodus 20:12--“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

Deuteronomy 5:16--Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you."

Proverbs 1:8--My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother;

Proverbs 6:20--My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother.

Proverbs 20:20--Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

Proverbs 23:22--Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.

Proverbs 23:25--Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her who bore you rejoice.

Proverbs 28:24
Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, “It is no transgression,” The same is companion to a destroyer.

Proverbs 30:17--The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.

Malachi 1:6--“A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’

Matthew 15 :1--Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
       8 ‘ These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
      And honor Me with their lips,
      But their heart is far from Me.
      9 And in vain they worship Me,
      Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Ephesians 6:1-2--Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
