GOD
THE BIBLE AND LUSTING
Lusting is from within and cannot
be seen. Nevertheless, according to God, it is a serious sin that can lead
to other serious sins.
Lust is strictly
forbidden in God's Ten Commandments.
Exodus
20:17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not
covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant,
nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
The concept was
further reinforced for Jews as follows:
Numbers 15:39--You
will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands
of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going
after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.
Job understood the necessity of controlling this human
tendency.
Job 31:1--"I
made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.
Solomon warns against it as well.
Proverbs 6:23-25--For the commandment is a
lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep
you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 Do not
lust after her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
Jesus Christ equated lust with adultery.
Matthew 5:28
-- But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has
already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Lust is a common trait among the wicked.
Romans 1:24
-- Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of
their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves...
Romans 1:27
-- Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is
shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was
due.
Christians must fight lust fiercely.
Romans 6:12--Therefore
do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its
lusts.
Romans 13:13--Let
us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in
lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.
Romans
13:14--But
put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to
fulfill its lusts.
1 Corinthians 10:6--Now
these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust
after evil things as they also lusted.
Ephesians 4:22--that
you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts...
The solution is the power of God in us.
Galatians 5:16--I
say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the
flesh.
Matthew 26:41--Watch
and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak.”
