GOD,
THE BIBLE AND THE AFFLICTED
Defending, respecting and supporting the
afflicted is a fundamental teaching in both the Old and the New Testament.
Psalm 82:3--Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Proverbs 22:22--Do not rob the poor because
he is poor,
Nor oppress the afflicted at the gate;
Proverbs 31:5--Lest they drink and forget the
law,
And pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
Isaiah 58:10--If you extend your
soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
2 Corinthians 1:4--who comforts us in all our
tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble,
with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
James 1:27--Pure and undefiled religion
before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their
trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Hebrews 13:3--Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are
mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.
Romans 12:15--Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
Galatians 6:2--Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
