GOD THE
BIBLE AND ADULTERY
Genesis 20:3
3 But God came to Abimelech in a
dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because
of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”
Exodus 20:14
“You shall not commit adultery.
Exodus 20:17
17 “You shall not covet your
neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male
servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything
that is your neighbor’s.”
Leviticus 20:10
‘The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits
adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall
surely be put to death.
Deuteronomy 5:18
‘You shall not commit adultery.
Proverbs 2
1
My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline
your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
11 Discretion will preserve
you;
Understanding will keep you,
16 To deliver you from the
immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words,
17 Who forsakes the
companion of her youth,
And forgets the covenant of her God.
18 For her house leads
down to death,
And her paths to the dead;
19 None who go to her
return,
Nor do they regain the paths of life—
Proverbs 5:3-5
3 For the lips of an immoral
woman drip honey,
And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 But in the end she is
bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to
death,
Her steps lay hold of hell.
8 Remove your way far from her,
And do not go near the door of her house,
9 Lest you give your
honor to others,
And your years to the cruel one;
10 Lest aliens be filled
with your wealth,
And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;
11 And you mourn at last,
When your flesh and your body are consumed,
12 And say:
“ How I have hated instruction,
And my heart despised correction!
13 I have not obeyed the
voice of my teachers,
Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!
Proverbs 7:6-27
6
For at the window of my house
I looked through my lattice,
7 And saw among the
simple,
I perceived among the youths,
A young man devoid of understanding,
8 Passing along the
street near her corner;
And he took the path to her house
9 In the twilight, in the
evening,
In the black and dark night.
10 And there a woman met
him,
With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11 She was loud
and rebellious,
Her feet would not stay at home.
12 At times she was
outside, at times in the open square,
Lurking at every corner.
13 So she caught him and
kissed him;
With an impudent face she said to him:
14 “ I have peace
offerings with me;
Today I have paid my vows.
15 So I came out to meet
you,
Diligently to seek your face,
And I have found you.
16 I have spread my bed
with tapestry,
Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17 I have perfumed my bed
With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our
fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with love.
19 For my husband is
not at home;
He has gone on a long journey;
20 He has taken a bag of
money with him,
And will come home on the appointed day.”
21 With her enticing
speech she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22 Immediately he went
after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23 Till an arrow struck
his liver.
As a bird hastens to the snare,
He did not know it would cost his life.
24 Now therefore, listen
to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25 Do not let your heart
turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
26 For she has cast down
many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27 Her house is
the way to hell,
Descending to the chambers of death.
Proverbs 9:13-18
13
A foolish woman is clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the
door of her house,
On a seat by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who
pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “ Whoever is
simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 “ Stolen water is
sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know
that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of hell.
Jeremiah 23:14
Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit
adultery and walk in lies; They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, So
that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to
Me, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.
Jeremiah 29:23
because they have done disgraceful things in Israel, have committed adultery
with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken lying words in My name, which I
have not commanded them. Indeed I know, and am a witness, says the LORD.
Matthew 5:27-28
27 “You have heard that it was
said to those of old,[a]
‘You shall not commit adultery.’[b]
28 But I say to you that whoever
looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in
his heart.
Matthew 5:32
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual
immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is
divorced commits adultery.
Matthew 19:16-18
16 Now behold, one came and said
to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I
do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, “Why do
you call Me good? No one is good but
One, that is, God. But if you want to
enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’
‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’
Mark 10:11
So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits
adultery against her.
Mark 10:12
And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits
adultery.”
Romans 13:9
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not
murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You
shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up
in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:19
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lewdness,
2 Peter 2:14
having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing
unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are
accursed children.
Revelation 2:22
Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with
her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.
