Many years ago I entered a most rewarding search. My
quest was to answer the following question:
Did the greatest minds of the past believe in God or did they gravitate
toward agnosticism or atheism, as some atheists propagate. The search
was long and arduous. Over the years, I searched hundreds of works in
universities' and public libraries, and I spent countless hours collecting
first-hand statements from the works of most of the greatest luminaries of the past.
The result of my exploration was most fascinating and the conclusion
most uplifting. The evidence was undeniable: the vast
majority of the greatest minds of the past believed in God. In fact, many
lived very devout Christian lives.
In this web site I want to make available the result of my search, so as
to share with others many inspiring statements about God from titans
like Galileo, Newton, Copernicus and Pasteur in Science; Luminaries like
Shakespeare, Milton, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky in Literature; brilliant
thinkers like Kant, Hegel, Locke and Rousseau in Philosophy, Giants in
art like Michelangelo, Leonardo, Rubens and Renoir and supreme musicians
like Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn and Bach.
Much effort has been
invested in making sure that each quotation is accompanied by a detailed
reference, so as to make the material academically useful for works
others may write in the future.
My hope is that more material will be added in the future, as time
allows. In the meantime, may you find the thoughts of the greatest
minds of the past about their Creator most enlightening and inspiring.
