GOD, THE BIBLE AND WORLDLINESS

     Worldliness (Joining the world in their sins), is consistently condemned in the Bible. Satan works through the world to entice humans into self-destructive sins. God says, "Resist and stay clean, or the consequences will be painful."

Isaiah 5:11Woe to those who rise early in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!

Isaiah 5:12

     The harp and the strings,
      The tambourine and flute,
      And wine are in their feasts;
      But they do not regard the work of the LORD,
      Nor consider the operation of His hands.

The righteous left worldliness behind. The worldly will resent them for having left the way of dissolution.

1 Peter 4:3--For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.

Titus 3:3--For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.

Returning to worldliness will lead to eternal consequences, unless repented of.

Galatians 5:19--Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ecclesiastes 11:9
      Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,
      And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth;
      Walk in the ways of your heart,
      And in the sight of your eyes;

  But know that for all these
      God will bring you into judgment.

James 5:55 --You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as  in a day of slaughter.

Ephesians 4:17--This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

Miscellaneous teachings about worldliness.

1 Timothy 5:6--But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

Ecclesiastes 7:2--Better to go to the house of mourning
      Than to go to the house of feasting,
      For that is the end of all men;
      And the living will take it to heart.

Ecclesiastes 7:3--Sorrow is better than laughter, For by a sad countenance the heart is made better.

Ecclesiastes 2:1--I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure”; but surely, this also was vanity.

Proverbs 14:13--Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, And the end of mirth may be grief.

Luke 8:14--Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

James 5:1--Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!

Ephesians 4:19--who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

2 Timothy 3:4--(In the last days people will be...) traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

Ecclesiastes 7:4--The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,  But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

Proverbs 21:17--He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich.

Hebrews 11:25

(Moses chose...) rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin...

2 Peter 2:13--and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you...
