GOD, THE BIBLE AND WORLDLINESS
Worldliness (Joining the world
in their sins), is consistently condemned in the Bible. Satan works through
the world to entice humans into self-destructive sins. God says, "Resist and
stay clean, or the consequences will be painful."
Isaiah 5:11Woe to those who rise early
in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!
Isaiah 5:12
The harp and the strings,
The tambourine and flute,
And wine are in their feasts;
But they do not regard the work of the LORD,
Nor consider the operation of His hands.
The righteous left worldliness behind.
The worldly will resent them for having left the way of dissolution.
1 Peter 4:3--For we have spent
enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked
in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable
idolatries. 4 In regard to
these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the
same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
Titus 3:3--For we ourselves were also
once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures,
living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
Returning to worldliness will lead to
eternal consequences, unless repented of.
Galatians 5:19--Now the works of the flesh
are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness
21 envy, murders,
drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just
as I also told you in time past, that
those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ecclesiastes 11:9
Rejoice, O young man,
in your youth,
And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth;
Walk in the ways of your heart,
And in the sight of your eyes;
But know
that for all these
God will bring you into judgment.
James 5:55
--You have lived on the earth in pleasure
and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of
slaughter.
Ephesians 4:17--This I say, therefore, and
testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of
the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
